SBDC-OC joins in recognition of Juneteenth

We see it all the time in the owners of small businesses who come to us for help, individuals who are resilient and dedicated to progress and change no matter the challenges. It is in this spirit that we recognize and celebrate June 19 known as Juneteenth, a day dedicated to continued progress and improvement in our country. It is a day first celebrated in 1866 a year after Union troops informed enslaved Black people in Texas that they were free, that a historic document called the Emancipation Proclamation signed by President Abraham Lincoln in 1863 had thrown open the door to their freedom and to significant progress and change in their lives of the most fundamental importance. We are honored to join in the recognition of this historic day and the movement toward lasting change that it embodies.
