Small Business Development Corporation joins network supporting micro-businesses

In keeping with its mission to serve at-risk business owners and spur economic growth, Small Business Development Corporation of Orange County on June 27th, joined CAMEO – the California Association for Micro Enterprise Opportunity.

Based in San Francisco, CAMEO focuses its services and advocacy work on the most vulnerable of ventures, the micro-business. Such enterprises typically have fewer than five employees and yet are responsible for supporting or creating more than 101,000 new jobs while generating $7.5 billion in economic activity.

Small Business Development Corporation is now part of a network of more than 300 organizations and individuals who work with CAMEO in providing loans, credit and other financial resources, technical assistance and training in business operations.

Tiny businesses collectively pack a big punch, accounting for 20 percent of the state’s workforce. Yet their owners often face steep obstacles in acquiring necessary resources and may even have difficulty conjuring the self-confidence required to succeed. The ravages of the Covid-19 pandemic on the small business community have only worsened these challenges. CAMEO’s suite of resources, including online training and other assistance for CAMEO network members, provides a solid foundation upon which entrepreneurs can build their dream businesses, establish independence and flourish.

“We are very excited to join CAMEO’s pipeline of organizations that offer services to business owners who struggle the most,” said Michael Ocasio, president and chief executive officer of Small Business Development Corporation of Orange County. “CAMEO’s mission is also our mission and we are privileged to join this dynamic team whose outreach and advocacy is so vital to this important cornerstone of our economy.”
