On Monday, Sept. 7, SBDC-OC will be closed for the federal Labor Day holiday. We pause from the ongoing effort to meet objectives and deadlines and goals to celebrate the enormous impact of workers around this country and their remarkable achievements across industries which have built up this nation’s extraordinary economic strength. Let us take a moment during our barbecues, celebrations and moments of relaxation to remember the roots of this holiday, grounded in the efforts of those who strived against significant workplace injustices during the Industrial Revolution, mostly affecting the poor and disenfranchised. Labor Day became a legal federal holiday on June 28, 1894. We honor those whose efforts resulted in better treatment of our workers and who helped open the door for the pursuit of greater equity and equality.
